THE GREATEST AND MOST EXPENSIVE GIFT

“Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.”

1 Peter 1: 18, 19 King James Version

Christmas is next month and we are thinking about what gifts to buy for our families, loved ones and friends. One day, God opened His heart and gave us the greatest and most expensive gift that was ever bought, His beloved Son, Jesus. It doesn’t cost us anything to have the precious redemptive blood of Jesus applied to our hearts for the forgiveness of our sins, but it cost God His only Son and it cost Jesus His blood.

The material gifts that we give will one day fade away, break or be ruined, but the gift of unconditional Love that God gave us will last for all eternity. When we are given gifts that are so beautifully decorated, we are anxious and eager to open them because their beauty appeals to us. When Jesus hung on the cross to purchase our salvation, He had been beaten beyond recognition and there was no beauty that we should desire Him. However, He is the most beautiful gift that was or ever will be given because He is the Gift of Love from our Heavenly Father.

What are you going to give Jesus for His birthday present this year? If you have never given Him your heart, it would be a wonderful gift if you would invite Him to be your personal Saviour. For some of you, He has been standing at your heart’s door for years. He has knocked every day but you have turned away and rejected the Christ of Calvary. You have crucified Him every day by refusing His Love. Please don’t hurt Him anymore.
