THE HEART OF A HOME

“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”

John 14: 1 - 3 King James Version

Jesus is preparing a mansion for us and with Him as our interior decorator; we can’t even begin to imagine how beautiful and lovely our mansions are going to be. However, if He wasn’t there, I wouldn’t want to live there. I think the same is true with some of our homes. We decorate our homes with the finest things money can buy and they are lovely. Some of them look like homes that we see in a magazine about homes but Jesus doesn’t live there.

If Jesus doesn’t live in our hearts, all of the decorations in the world won’t make our homes beautiful because Jesus is the heart of a home. If there is fighting and chaos in our homes, all the expensive decorations in the world won’t make our homes beautiful. If we are yelling at our spouses and at our children, our homes are ugly.

Jesus paid a very expensive price for our peace, for our joy and for our happiness when He died on the cruel cross of horror for us. Our precious Saviour was beaten beyond recognition. He was spat upon, cursed, ridiculed, mocked and rejected. While the physical pain that He endured is beyond our understanding and something that we will never fully comprehend, I believe with all of my heart that Jesus died of a broken heart.

Everyone had deserted him and He was totally alone. He had asked them to watch and pray with Him in the garden and they fell asleep. How that must have hurt Him and broken His heart! His own Father had to turn away from Him because Jesus had taken our sins on Him. Our Heavenly Father is a Holy God and He can not look on sin. How that must have broken the heart of our Father because He had to turn away from His own Son.

What condition is your home in today? Is it filled with peace, laughter, joy and happiness? If so, Jesus is living in your heart and in your home. If your home is filled with anger, turmoil, cursing and hatred, then satan is the ruler of your heart and home. Who would you rather have living in your heart and home, Jesus or satan?
