THE LAST FEW STEPS

“And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him.”

Matthew 27: 31 King James Version

I have arthritis and I can’t carry heavy garbage bags so I had to drag two bags to the garbage dumpster. I was almost to the dumpster and my arms started aching terribly. I didn’t think I would make it the last few steps.

I think as Jesus walked that long lonely road to the cross that He felt the same way. I’m sure that He felt that each of the last few steps He walked were a mile long. Not only was He hurting physically, He was hurting emotionally. All of His friends had left Him to die alone. He was also apprehensive because of what was about to happen to Him. He was human and felt the same feelings that we feel.

There are many people who are dying emotionally. Sometimes our friends tell us that they are carrying heavy burdens and have heartaches, yet we are so involved in our daily schedules that we don’t take time for them. I have wondered many times how Jesus was able to minister to so many people and yet He was the busiest of anyone. He was human just as we are and He got tired and frustrated just as we do.

I have received countless emails in the last two years from people whose hearts are breaking because of broken homes, rebellious children and financial problems. I have told all of them to go to Jesus. He is the answer to every situation no matter what the need may be. If today you feel that you can’t take the last few steps, I urge you to take hold of our Saviour’s hand. He will pick you up and carry you those last few steps.
