THE WRONG KEY

“Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.”

Matthew 7: 13, 14 King James Version

Yesterday afternoon I walked to the mailbox at the entrance to the trailer park where I live to get my mail. When I came back to my trailer and put the key in the lock it didn’t fit. I had my mind on my mail and wasn’t really paying attention to what I was doing. I kept trying to fit the key in the lock but it just wouldn’t fit. I finally realized what I had done wrong. I had tried to put my mailbox key in the door to my trailer to unlock it. I had tried to open the door with the wrong key. I put the right key in the lock and it opened instantly.

We do the same thing with Jesus. There are times when we try to turn His key to make Him do things for us. We treat Him like He is a puppet and all we have to do is pull His strings and He will perform for us. He is not a name and claim it God. He is a Holy God and is to be treated with respect, dignity, honor and awe! We don’t hold the key to heaven, He holds the key. It doesn’t matter how many good deeds we do for others or how much money we give to the poor. Our works and money will never get us to heaven. If that would be true, then He wouldn’t have had to die for us and suffer so much horror, agony and pain.

There is only one way to heaven and it is through the blood of Jesus that He shed for us on the cross. All of us must be washed in the cleansing atoning blood of the Christ of Calvary. There must be a time when we come to Him with a broken heart for our sins and confess that we are a sinner and ask Him to forgive us and come into our hearts to be our personal Saviour. Nobody can do it for us. Each one of must have a personal relationship with Jesus. This is the only way to heaven. There is no other way. There are people who have tried for years to find happiness, peace and joy but these things are only found as we confess our sins to Him, allow Him to change our hearts and yield our lives in obedience to Him.

We try to do things our way. We want to live our lives the way we want to live them. We make plans for the day and arrange our schedules without consulting Him first to see what He wants us to do that day. The things that we have planned to do on that day may be completely different from what He wants us to do. Jesus has told us that there is only one way to live a victorious life and that is to live in obedience to Him and to walk through the gate that He has chosen and on the path that He has chosen for us.

So many people are looking for happiness in drugs, alcohol, sex and all other things that stinks in the nostrils of Jesus. The television is filled with violence, sex, and cursing. Even the commercials have things on them that is displeasing to Him. Yet, we continue to watch those things and listen to those things that hurt Him and we break His heart. There is only one way to be happy and that is by keeping our hearts in tune with Jesus. Our hearts become filled with bitterness, resentment, envy, jealousy, criticism and hatred. We must go to Him daily, and sometimes hourly, and let Him take away all those things that displease and hurt Him.

If you are trying to find happiness, peace, joy and love in things or people, you will never be successful. Jesus is the only one who can give peace, joy and happiness. He paid a terrible price for our salvation and happiness. Don’t let His suffering and dying be in vain for you. Give your heart and life to Him today. You will have so much excitement and joy that you will be unable to contain it. You will have peace, a lasting peace in your heart.
