TONIGHT

“And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. And I will say to my soul; Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”

Luke 12: 18 – 21 King James Version

There are people who are in the process of buying new homes, new cars and new furniture. They don’t have enough money in the bank so they put the purchases on their credit cards. When the time comes to pay the credit cards, they don’t have the money to pay them so they desperately try to borrow money and put themselves deeper in debt.

It is nice to have big homes, expensive cars, and beautiful furniture. However if it puts us so far into debt that we have to work longer hours then we need to ask ourselves is having all these material things worth it? Not only does working extra hours and extra days take us away from our families, it takes away from the time we spend with Jesus. The first priority in our lives should be Jesus. He should come before our jobs, our families, loved ones and friends, and before any activity.

Jesus isn’t impressed with our material possessions. He is impressed with the love that we give to our families, loved ones, friends, and to the world. We can’t take our possessions with us, but we can take the people that we have loved to Jesus with us. This is the greatest gift we can give Jesus. Are you ready to meet Him if He comes tonight?
