TOO LATE

"A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger."

Proverbs 15:1 King James Version

The day that I got married, I was so excited that I sprayed hair spray under my arms, and put deodorant on my hair. When I realized what I had done, there was no time to take a bath and wash my hair.

Many times we get angry and upset and in the excitement of the moment, we say things that we really don’t mean. It’s too late to take them back. Once they are said, the arrows of criticism, harshness, and hatred pierce the person’s heart. We can apologize and ask for forgiveness, and they can forgive us, but the wounds are still open and raw. It takes the Love of Jesus to heal these wounds.

When someone hurts me and says criticizing, sarcastic words to me, I really want to say something to that person that will hurt him or her. It has taken Jesus many years to take the terrible temper that I had away from my heart. I still have to rush to Jesus and ask Him to help me keep my big mouth shut when someone attacks me.

We need to make a special effort and not say sarcastic remarks back to someone who has hurt us. We can’t do it in our own strength. It is only accomplished through allowing the Love of Jesus to so flow through our hearts that we will be quiet when someone attacks us. How is your temper today? Does Jesus control your heart and mouth, or are you still allowing satan to run your life?
