Too Wrapped Up

"Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others."

Philippians 2: 4 King James Version

One of the most heartbreaking memories I have is the day my beloved sister came to me needing comfort. One of her friends had died, if I remember correctly, she had been on a motorcycle. I was so wrapped up in my own little world of self pity that I was not there for my sister when she needed me.

I am ashamed to tell you this, you know what I did, instead of comforting her, I asked her to take me to the hospital because I was so depressed. Looking back on it, I have to be honest, yes, I was depressed, but more than that, I was feeling sorry for myself. My heart breaks and the tears flow down my cheeks and in my heart when I think of how I let her down. She has done so much for me, and I wasn't there when she needed me.

All of us have problems and heartaches. All of us have times when we are unable to comfort someone else, but there are times when we are so wrapped up in our own little world of self pity that we shut out the pain of other people. We need to stop focusing on ourselves and saying "Poor me"!

We need to keep our hearts in tune with Jesus so that when someone comes to us needing comfort, or we know of someone needing comfort, we will open our arms and hearts to them. May God forgive us for our selfishness! Are you so wrapped up with your own problems that you don't even think about the devastating hurt and pain in the lives of your loved ones?
