WE DON’T KNOW

“Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.”

Matthew 24: 42 - 44 King James Version

I fell this morning while I was taking a shower and it really shook me up. I thought at first that more of the cartilage in my knee gave way and it caused me to fall. However, I didn’t get the sharp pain in my knee that I always get when my knee gives way. I don’t remember slipping either. It doesn’t matter why I fell; what matters is that I did fall and could have been hurt very badly, broken a leg or hip or even been killed. God was with me because all that I have is a very sore body and black and blue bruises.

As I was thinking later this afternoon about falling, the thought came to me “Thank God that if I had hit my head and been killed, my bags are packed and I’m ready to go because one day I humbled myself, admitted that I was a sinner and cried out to Jesus to have mercy on me, forgive me and save me. I have made a reservation for Heaven and have the cleansing atoning blood of Jesus applied to my heart”.

We don’t know when God is going to call us home so we need to be ready to go at any minute. I don’t have anything material to leave to my family, loved ones and friends but I can leave them the love, respect and admiration I have for them. I can leave all the people on my mailing list and the ones who ready the devotionals on my websites the assurance that Jesus loves them.

Are you ready to go should God call you home today? Have you asked Jesus to save you? Have you made your reservation for Heaven? What will you leave your family, loved ones and friends? Will you leave a legacy of love or will you leave a legacy of criticism and judgment? If Jesus comes back for us today, are you ready to meet Him? Will you be able to look in His eyes with happiness and excitement, or will you have to hang your head in shame and look away?
