I received an email from someone who said “My family doesn’t want me to talk about God”. It reminded me that several years ago, I received an email from my sister and she said “I don’t want a preacher; I want a sister”. I had been talking about God to her, but living a life that didn’t show the Love of Jesus.
I went to my Pastor and asked what I should do. I was told to keep quiet and live my life so that she would see Jesus living in me. Today, my sister is my biggest encourager. She is the one who kept after me until I started writing again. There was a long time when I didn’t turn on my computer because I was so dead inside. Yet, she kept encouraging me.
God has used my brother-in-law to be an encouragement to me and to my ministry. Gloria Gaither said on one of the Homecoming Videos, “Danny is not only a brother to Bill; he is a brother to me also, and I don’t think we have ever had a cross word”. My brother-in-law is a brother to me and I love him just as if he had been born into our family. He has hurt me and I have hurt him. Yet, both of us have made the choice to forgive and forget.
A pastor friend of mine once said in a sermon “If your family doesn’t see the difference that Jesus made in your life, they will not believe you when you tell them. You have to live your life so they will see Jesus in you”. When your family looks at you, what do they see? Do they see the difference Jesus has made in your life?
