We have just been saved, made a heart commitment to Jesus, and we are excited and on fire for Jesus. We attend church every time the doors open and go to different places to hear someone who is coming to speak. Then one day someone says something critical and harsh to us and the fire dies a little. Every time people say unkind things to us or about us the fire grows dimmer and dimmer until one day the fire is extinguished.
In a marriage between a husband and wife, there will come a time when the excitement wears off and they must realize that marriage is a commitment to each other. The same is true with our marriage to Jesus. People may throw criticizing and cruel words at us which dampens our enthusiasm and commitment but we need to remain faithful and loyal to Jesus.
One thing we can depend on is the Love that Jesus has for us. He never stops loving us no matter what we say or do. We may break His heart but He forgives us time after time. He remains faithful and loyal to us even when we forget about Him and ignore Him. We should make a special effort to keep praising Him even in the midst of heartaches and trials.
Have people said unkind things to you that have caused the excitement you had in telling others about Jesus to be extinguished? If so, run as fast as you can into the waiting arms of our dear Saviour and ask Him to renew your enthusiasm and commitment. He is faithful and will once again restore the joy of your salvation to you. What a wonderful Saviour we serve!
