YOU’RE ALL I NEED

“Blessed be the Lord, because he hath heard the voice of my supplications. The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him. The Lord is their strength, and he is the saving strength of his anointed. Save thy people, and bless thine inheritance: feed them also, and lift them up for ever.”

Psalm 28: 6 – 9 King James Version

I had a very difficult and heartbreaking day yesterday. In fact, it was probably the second most heartbreaking day of my life. Yet, even in the midst of the heartache and tears, I was able to say to Jesus “You’re all I need”. Indeed, Jesus is all that we need. He is more than enough for every situation and every heartache. With Jesus on our side we can face anything that the world and satan throws at us knowing that He will fight our battles for us and bring us through victorious every time. There is nothing too hard for Him.

Only Jesus is able to look into the hidden corners of our hearts and see the pain, loneliness and horrors that we keep hidden from our families and friends for fear of ridicule, criticism and rejection. It is very risky to share what is in our hearts with someone because we take a big chance of being misunderstood, criticized, hurt and rejected. Jesus understands how we feel because He too was criticized, rejected and ridiculed. He knows what it is like to feel like nobody cares and to feel all alone.

His heart is filled with compassion and tenderness for us. He gently puts His arms of understanding, kindness and mercy around us and holds us close to His heart of love and whispers softly in our ears “I love you and will never hurt you”. What a friend we have in Jesus! It is safe to trust Him because He is trustworthy and He loves us so much that He walked that long and lonely road to Calvary. There on the old rugged cross, He took our place and paid the penalty for our sins. He, who had never sinned, paid the debt that we owed but could never pay because there is nothing that we could do that would satisfy a Holy God and save us from our sins.

Because of His amazing and unconditional love for us, He allowed them to crucify Him on a cruel cross of torture and pain that we will never be able to fully comprehend with our human understanding. None of us have ever or will ever experience the heartaches, rejection and loneliness that he endured while here on earth. His heart was broken time after time as He reached out trying to give His love to the people but He was ridiculed, criticized and scorned.

It is wonderful to have family and friends who love us and encourage us but sometimes things happen and we feel that we don’t have that encouragement and support any more. It is then that we can rest assured that Jesus loves us with an unconditional and unending love and know that He will never criticize us or put us down. If necessary, He corrects us gently and tenderly like we would correct a little child.

There is a song we sing “He’s all I need. He’s all I need. Jesus is all I need”. Until and unless we can sing this from our hearts and really mean it we have not grasped the depths of His love for us. If we truly love Him with all of our heart and trust Him to stay with us through the dark valleys of our lives as well as the mountain tops in our lives, then we will be able to praise Him no matter what heartaches and trials we encounter.

Even in the midst of the most difficult situations, Jesus is all that we need. It is His strength that carries us through the pain and sorrows in our lives. We don’t have the strength to withstand all the criticism, sarcasm and hatred that the world and satan hurls at us. Jesus, we confess that we are a needy people. Thank You for being a friend that we can trust; a friend who will never leave us or criticize us.
